Western River fixed aid

Western Rivers use important local conventions. Consult the chart and Light List rather than transferring coastal numbering assumptions.

The Western Rivers system has significant differences.

Among them:

buoys generally are not numbered in the same way as coastal lateral buoys

numbers shown on fixed aids can represent river mileage rather than lateral numbering

safe-water and isolated-danger marks are not used in the same way

river current and channel geometry make local chart and Light List information particularly important

Do not transfer a coastal "red even, green odd" quiz answer blindly to Western Rivers.
