Dress and load the hitch in its intended direction; holding deteriorates when the direction changes or on slippery line.

Use

Attaching a line to another line or object where the load will pull mainly in one direction.

Sequence

Make a second turn beside the first, also on the load side.

Cross to the opposite side.

Make a final turn.

Tuck the working end beneath itself.

Dress and load in the intended direction.

Limitations

Holding ability deteriorates if:

loaded in the wrong direction

tied incorrectly

used on very slippery modern line

the loading changes direction repeatedly
